Well, for a longer lens I've hear the 50-250mm IS is great if you can get it at a good price. I have the Tamron 70-300mm Di which has nice too, but is unstabilized (which is fine since sony bodies are stabilized).
But I LOVE my minolta 50mm f/1.7. It is super sharp and is really fast- awesome for low light stuff. I think Canon has a 50mm f/1.8 that is similar.
So how comfortable are you with aperture and shutter speed and stuff? Just wondering if you know what you dove into. :D
By the way, awesome pic. Oh, and remember that the pics from your new cam may seem to have less "punch". That's because point and shoots automatically add sharpening and contrast, while a DSLR is just showing what it reads. You can change that in camera or just edit it later,
This'll be awesome. I still can't believe how much I've learned since I got my dslr!
From a post-shot editing standpoint, I prefer the photos with "less punch" because the automatic contrast/saturation can sometimes be hard to edit out of a photo...when I was planning on editing a photo after I took it, I would set my G10 to take as "bland" a picture as I could so that I could make it look like I wanted it to afterward... ;)

So are you going to tell us what is is or what?
My guess: Canon t1i or t2i. And not a Sony, even though those rule. Am I prejudiced?
Good guess!!! It's a Canon Rebel t1i! :)
Great Photo! I love Siley, he's such a noble looking mooch... :)
Yay!!! A blog post! ;) Have fun with your new toy, and post lots of pictures! :)
