After researching a little more, I'm not so sure that it's a sparrow egg. It looks just like other sparrow eggs I've seen but the fact that it's in another nest makes it fit in more with a cowbird egg (which is also brown and speckled like this one).
One reason I didn't think it was a cowbird egg at first was the fact that the whole nest was only about 2.5 inches across and the eggs were only 0.5-0.75 inches long. To me that sounded awful small for a cowbird egg but I couldn't find any measurements for sparrow or cowbird eggs that would have helped determine which one it was.
So, at the moment I don't really know who the egg belongs to. If anyone has some input on the subject, I would appreciate to hear from you.

Ah, this picture past compare!
Beautiful little eggs.
Nests thrill me.
But you knew that.
Do house sparrows habitually lay their eggs in someone else's nests (like grackles is it?), or is this more of an anomaly?
